Description
We pack our mealworms with enough food to last a week because with unpredictable postal delivery they could be in transit for up to a week. We do pack an extra 5% mealworms to makeup for any dead on arrival.Save money
by buying in larger amounts. The cost of shipping ranges between and and is included in the price. The more you buy, the more you save because shipping 1000 cost the same as shipping 3000.
Our large size
weigh 7 ounces per 1000 mealworms.
We weigh each batch to get an average and multiply to get the weight of 1000 mealworms. We do not assume that each bin of mealworms will weigh the same, because they are constantly growing and are not all growing at the same rate.
Pupae and Beetles:
In the 2 - 3 days of shipment large mealworms can pupate. If shipping is delayed long enough, the pupae could emerge as beetles. When I pack the mealworms, there are no pupae in the bag. However, they could pupate within minutes, hours, or days. There is no way to predict when a large mealworm will pupate. In fact, there is a remote possibility that a medium mealworm will pupate.
Caring for mealworms:
When you unpack your mealworms, carefully open the bag and pour the mealworms into a container. Turn the bag inside out and rake the mealworms loose from the paper and the bag with your hands being careful not to apply enough pressure to swish them. Feed them wheat bran or oatmeal. Give them an organic carrot. Organic food is very important because pesticide residue on food
will
kill the mealworms. Do not put water in their container. The carrot will supply all the moisture they require.
Long-term care:
If you do not feed your pet with the mealworms within 2-3 weeks, you will need to clean their container. Use a kitchen wire strainer and sift the grain and mealworms in order to remove the feces left by the mealworms. Sifting will not harm the mealworms. They are very resilient. Do not over feed the mealworms because they could suffocate under the weight of the grain. Maintain about 1" depth of grain in your container.
