Darkling beetles are the adult form of the mealworm larvae. These beetles have emerged from pupae within the last 7 days and have a lifespan of up to 4 months. Each female beetle will produce approximately 3-5 eggs every day for the first several weeks after emerging. Their egg production rate will decrease with advancing age, but will still continue to produce for up to 4 months. They can be reared in the same way as mealworm larvae, using wheat bran or oats as a bedding and food source, plus fresh veggies as a water source.
