Fruit Fly Media Culture Kit (MAKES 6 CULTURES) choice of flies included FREE!

Description

This is a complete media kit, pre measured so you just dump the media, add hot water, stir and go. Choice of flies included, if you want them! This kit will make 6 cultures. I use Repashy Supefly for the media and not some generic mix.
6 - bags of media (pre-measured)
6 - 32oz deli cups
6 - 32 oz vented lids (insect proof)
6 - portions of Excelsior (better than coffee filters)
6 - labels for cups so you can keep track of date media was made
Directions:
Empty one packet of media into a 32oz cup
add 2/3 cup of hot or boiling water into cup and media (2 thirds, not 2 or 3 cups)
Stir until blended. The media should be at the consistency that if you tap it on the counter, the media will flatten out. Add water in small amounts until you reach the consistency desired.
Wait until the media is cooled off (about an hour depending on the temp of the water or faster if you put it in the refrigerator).
Add about 50 flies to the cup (easier without the excelsior being in the cup)
Add a portion of excelsior to the cup so that the bottom touches the media
Close with provided lid
Write date on the provided label and stick to the cup
For best results, store flies in constant temps between 70 and 75 degrees. Larvae will begin showing up in about 10 days and flies in about 20 days.
Colder temps will slow down the reproduction speed of the flies.
Constant temps hotter than 80 degrees will cause the flies to mutate into flying demons that will get you into trouble with your significant other if they escape. Trust me, I know from experience!

I ship Monday to Thursday if you want the flies, as it's usually 2-3 day delivery and the flies shouldnt sit around over a weekend in a box (USPS does not guarantee delivery on Sundays). I ship Monday-Saturday if you only want the kit and no flies.
**Please Note: The flies are FREE with the purchase if you want them but they are LIVE insects and as such, they are subjected to probably less that ideal conditions during shipping. If you have die-off, please contact me immediately so we can work something out but you are paying for the media kit and not the flies themselves.
The flies may be dead but the larvae in the eggs will still be viable and will produce. Prompt Communication with me is the key as I want you to be happy with your purchase. I am a hobbyist like you and not a profit making business.

These flies come from Southern California so keep in mind the distance they need to travel - I do include cold packs but theyre only rated to 2 days***
